AN OVERVIEW OF ALL MATERIALS
BIRKENSTOCK uses high-quality types of leather, carefully selected textiles and synthetic/blended fabrics to produce sandals and shoes. All materials are produced responsibly and continuously monitored to ensure they are kind to skin.

LEATHER
Leather is one of the most robust natural materials used in traditional shoe manufacturing. BIRKENSTOCK uses very high-quality, especially thick, unsplit leather.

SUEDE
Suede is the sand-buffed flesh part of the skin after split. It has a velour touch and feel making it comfortable, durable and providing it with optimum moisture absorption properties.

FULL GRAIN LEATHERS
We use high-quality thick full grain natural leathers – most are smooth and some tumbled. This type of leather ensures great comfort and has many special features, such as breathability, insulation, adaptation to the feet shape and durability.

OILED LEATHER
This is one of our favorite leather types; the oil and wax applied offer a beautiful two tone effect and create a magnific aging effect.

NUBUCK LEATHER
Is made out of the best quality leather by gently buffing the top grain. Nubuck is a high- luxury leather with a special velvety touch which evolves into a patina look.
SYNTHETIC MATERIAL
The skin-friendly and durable Birko-Flor® synthetic material is used in different versions for the production of stylish sandals and shoes.

BIRKO-FLOR®
Birko-Flor® is a skin-friendly, hard-wearing and easy-care synthetic material which is used exclusively by BIRKENSTOCK.

BIRKO-FLOR® NUBUCK
Birko-Flor® Nubuck manages to almost perfectly replicate the look and feel of authentic nubuck leather.

BIRKO-FLOR® PATENT
The moisture-repellent Birko-Flor® in a patent finish is brilliant and bold and has a high-quality look. There are no limits when it comes to colours.
TEXTILE MATERIALS
BIRKENSTOCK also uses highly durable and skin-friendly textile materials to produce sandals and shoes.

LINEN/CANVAS
Linen is one of the most robust textile types and is traditionally used for clothing that is subject to heavy wear.

MICROFIBRE (VEGAN)
Vegan microfibre fabric is a skin-friendly material that is soft, but also resistant to tears.

WOOL FELT
Wool felt is among the oldest textiles in the world and has established itself as a material that is often used for the upper of slippers.
